The Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research IZKF “BIOMAT.“ at the RWTH Aachen University invites applications for the Positions:
Research Scientist and PhD Students
Research Scientist. The candidate must have a PhD in molecular biology or a related field with significant experience of standard molecular biology (DNA construct preparation and manipulation), protein characterization (SDS-PAGE, Western), and cell transfection. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask and to track concurrent projects are essential.
The candidate is expected to work and plan experiments independently and be a self-starter. The laboratory interests are the development of IPE and/or RPE cell prosthesis for transplantation subretinally as well as the development of other cellular prosthesis for transplant at disease sites.
The candidate will work under the direction of the Research Group Leader and will play a direct role in establishing systems to produce, characterize and genetically modify cellular prosthesis. The position is available starting March 2009.
PhD Student. The IZKF "BIOMAT." seeks qualified, highly motivated PhD students with a master/diploma degree in biology, biochemistry or related life sciences. The positions are available starting March 2009 in the IZKFfunded group of Prof. Dr. Thumann focusing on the establishment and characterization of cellular prosthesis for transplantation in the eye. The candidate should be familiar with cell biology assays including ELISA, fluorescence activated cell sorter and tissue culture. The candidate must have good communication skills and should be able to work constructively in a multi-disciplinary team.
