In the Department of Pneumology of the University Hospital of Freiburg, in the context

The project is carried out in close cooperation with Prof. M. Freudenberg from the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology, and part of the planned investigations will take place at the MPI. It is possible to a PhD program of the SFB620 and the CCI Freiburg participate. Their task is mainly the development and description of an already established mouse model to be sarcoidosis. Advantage in knowledge are Mouse model but not a requirement. The duration of the project amounts to 3 Years.

In frame of a DFG-funded project a Ph.D. position (1/2 E13 TV-L) is available to study mechanisms controlling transcriptional silencing by the global regulator and nucleoid-associated protein H-NS in Escherichia coli, and to elucidate the role of LuxR-type transcription factors in antagonistic control of H-NS in response the stress conditions and environmental stimuli. Experience in bacterial genetics and/or microbiology as well as knowledge of standard molecular and biochemical techniques is advantageous. Applicants should hold a Diploma or Masters-Degree in Biology or Biochemistry. With funding of the DFG Type II collagen-based nanofiber scaffolds for cartilage regeneration a PhD position for a life scientist with strong interest and background in Tissue Engineering strategies is available at the Orthopaedic Center for Musculoskeletal Research (König-Ludwig-Haus) Würzburg. The scientific aim is to investigate cell-matrix interactions of primary cells (MSCs/chondrocytes) on nanofibrous collagen scaffolds in the context of cartilage repair strategies.

Techniques from electrospinning, molecular biology and SEM to bioreactor cell culture will be applied to highlight the regulative key events during chondrogenic differentiation of primary cells in regards to scaffold morphology and biochemistry. Salary is based on TV-L. The position is available from July 1st, 2009 on.
