The Division of Signal Transduction and Growth Control is offering a PhD Position at The German Cancer Research Center

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 2100 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

The Division of Signal Transduction and Growth Control is offering a PhD Position (Ref-No. 60/2009)

Description:

– Our research focuses on the identification and analysis of gene regulatory networks implicated in the process of neoplastic transformation and malignant progression. Recently, we could demonstrate that intracellular signaling via the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) drives the strength and maintenance of a pro-tumorigenic inflammation, and provide genetic evidence for a novel role of RAGE in bridging inflammation and cancer (Gebhardt et al., 2008 J Exp Med; 205(2):275-85). For a project funded by the DKFZ-MOST German-Israeli Cooperation Program in Cancer Research, we are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with excellent scientific and practical background in molecular and cellular biology to complement our team. The project aims at assessing the regulation an molecular function of RAGE in genetically modified mouse models and cell lines derived thereof, and to verify the concept that functional inhibition of RAGE signaling could serve as a novel strategy for cancer therapy.
