Roche searching for R&D of new potent antibody-based products for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disease.

Roche, Switzerland “Make your mark. Improve lives.”

Who we are:
At Roche, 80,000 people across 150 countries are pushing back the frontiers of healthcare. Working together, we’ve become one of the world’s leading research-focused healthcare groups. Our success is built on innovation, curiosity and diversity, and on seeing each other’s differences as an advantage. To innovate healthcare, Roche has ambitious plans to keep learning and growing – and is seeking people who have the same goals for themselves.

The Position:
GLYCART biotechnology AG, a 100% affiliate of Roche Pharmaceuticals, is active in the research and development of new potent antibody-based products for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disease. We offer a stimulating and truly international environment. Glycart is located in Schlieren/Zurich.

To further strengthen our organization we are looking for a Research Associate in Molecular Biology (temporary for 1 year, starting in August 2009 or earlier)

Who you are:
You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies, and where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
In this position you will join a multinational team devoted to the design and generation of different kinds of expression systems for use in eukaryotic and prokaryotic hosts. You will be responsible for conducting the day-to-day construction of expression vectors for many different purposes such as antibody and antigen production in transiently transfected cell lines or the preparation of high quality expression vectors for the generation of stable cell lines. Also, you are supporting the team in generation of all necessary constructs to bring new projects ahead in development. An additional task in that position is the optimization of expression systems for use in bacterial high cell density fermentation processes.

For this demanding position in a dynamic environment we are looking for a research associate who holds a Bachelor/Master in biological sciences (or equivalent qualification, no PhD) with recent and extensive research laboratory experience. Industrial experience is preferred. Fluency in English and German is a must. Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques (such as cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR and sequence analysis) is required and familiarity with biochemical methods (SDS-PAGE, Western Blot) and fermentation process is advantageous. You have a high degree of self-motivation, flexibility and are able to independently conduct experiments. You are also inquisitive and strive for continuous process improvement. In addition you interact effectively with a truly multinational team of scientists.
