Lab Manager for a new medical research center in Vienna, CeMM

The Research Center for Molecular Medicine is an international, independent and interdisciplinary research institution of the Austrian Academy of Sciences located at the Campus of the Vienna General Hospital and Medical University of Vienna (MUV). "From the clinic to the clinic": Driven by medical needs and through a molecular appreciation of diseases, CeMM integrates basic research and clinical expertise to pursue innovative diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic approaches.
Our new building is currently under construction and will be occupied in early 2010. The institute consists of eight floors (3.409 m" usable area), and provides room for around 100 researchers.

We are looking for a highly motivated b>LAB MANAGER (code: Lab 09) /b> to prepare the relocation of our multidisciplinary groups and to oversee day-to-day operations in the new research facility.

The lab manager will be a key member of CeMM, reports to the Administrative Director and has to work closely with our scientific and administrative members. The position requires interpersonal and communication skills and hands-on experience, combined with the ability to adapt easily to the changing needs and priorities of a fast-past research environment.

Specific duties include
- ordering supplies and equipment
- maintenance of laboratory supplies, inventories, equipment
- recommendations and price negotiations for purchase of supplies and capital equipment
- interacting as needed with IT and Financial Department
- implementation and administration of standard operating procedure (SOP)
- responsibilities as safety representative
- responsible for the management of cleaning and warehouse staff
- organization of relocation of our laboratories
- interacting with facility management of the Medical University Vienna

Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemistry, biology or related field; at least three years' professional experience facilitating the logistical operations of an academic or biotech laboratory; familiarity with biochemical analysis and instrumentation (e.g. HPLC, mass spectrometry); good technical, computer, negotiation and communication skills; fluent in English;
